2014 Fall Speaker Saba Mahmood

The Department of Religious Studies is excited to announce our Fall 2014 Speaker, Dr. Saba Mahmood.  Dr. Mahmood is an associate professor of social cultural anthropology at UC Berkeley.  A specialist in Islam, gender and human rights, she was awarded the 2013 Axel Springer Berlin Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Berlin.

Dr. Mahmood's talk, Religious Conflict and Modern Governance in the Middle East, will take place on Monday, September 29th at 7:30 p.m. in the Jayhawk Room of the Kansas Union.

Dr. Mahmood will also participate in a seminar with graduate students and faculty of the Department of Religious Studies on Monday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m. in 206 Smith Hall.
